A day of reflection for Married Couples

The Pastorelle Sisters’ house in Bundoora is often the place where days of prayer and reflection are offered to people who wish to take the opportunity to “come and rest a while with the Lord”.

On Saturday, 3 October 2009, Sr. Rita Ruzzene organised a day of reflection for married couples who at different times have expressed the desire to come together for some quiet time.

Six couples responded to the invitation and those who couldn’t make it, hope that there will be another day organised in the near future. Sr. Anna Genovese was also present.

The theme for the day was Communication - “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full” Jn 10:11.

The day was planned in such a way as to offer the group the opportunity to reflect on their image of God and their experience of relating to God, both personally and as a couple. Also, to ponder on God’s desire to communicate with us, especially through the person of Jesus.

Rublev’s icon of the Blessed Trinity was at the centre of Sr. Rita’s first input as a commentary on the life giving communication that exists in the life of the Blessed Trinity:  the love, trust, openness, self giving  at work in our Triune God.

In a second reflection, the couples were invited to engage in a conversation on the Christian understanding of the human person.

As well as ample time for personal reflection, there were opportunities for the couples to come together as a total group and to share their hopes and concerns as Christian married couples, and to voice some of the questions dwelling in their hearts.

A “recipe for Married Life” was included in the closing prayer and taken by the couples as their commitment in the days to come to be attentive to one another and to God’s presence in their life, so as to enhance their communication and deepening of their love, and experience the fullness of life promised by Jesus.
