Blessed James Alberione remembered

(1884-1971)

On 28th November 2010, the Pastorelle communities of Bundoora (Melbourne) and Payneham (Adelaide) - Australia -, gathered together with our Pauline Cooperators and friends to celebrate the memory of our Founder, Blessed James Alberione.

Fr. Nestor Candado, regional Superior of the Society of St. Paul, came from Sydney for the occasion and was principal celebrant. More than fifty people, Pauline Cooperators, catechists and friends were present at the Eucharistic celebration. As part of his homily, Fr. Nestor commented on the words Paul VI used to describe Fr. Alberione: «Here he is, humble, silent, tireless, contained in his thoughts, which flows from prayers to works, always ready to read the signs of the times. Our Father Alberione has given the Church news instruments to express herself, new means to give vigour and new breadth to its apostolic mission ...” (28 June 1969).

This year we have commemorated the 39th anniversary of the death of Bl. James Alberione. It is encouraging for us on this occasion to recall the words that he wrote at the very beginning of Abundantes Divitiae Gratiae Suae: “I often say: “Pater, non sum dignus vocari filius… pecavi in coelum et coram te… treat me as your servant. It is as a servant that I intend to belong to this marvellous Pauline Family, both now and in heaven. There, I shall concern myself with those who use the most effective modern means to do good: working in holiness, in Christ and in the Church” (AD3).

We trust in his intercession and pray especially that more young men and women around the world hear the call of the Lord and be drawn to the life and mission of the Pauline Family to live and to give Jesus Way Truth and Life to the world.
